The Edmontoners and the Quebecians

The 49ers spent the last 2 days at camp Burley doing some water based games. We met a fun bunch of scouts from Edmonton. We hung out for our 2 days.

What an out of breath view

The 49ers are the only unit that did the challenge hike tonight. It was a brutal hike up. But the view was spectacular.

The Hopeful Muffin

The 49ers. (unit group e2049) built their raft today. They named it the Hopeful Muffin And it withstood all the activities!!!

Their design even got some great praises from other leaders!! We went with a classic triangle design.

During the sponge fight, our scouts joined forces with a troop from Edmonton!! They kicked Bottom!

So strong, Liam can stand on it!

The boat by the end of it's epic voyage.

We have arrived at PJ!!!

We arrived to our home for the week. Camp Byng, Gibson BC.
Our scouts are quite overwhelmed at the amount of people that are here.

Our ferry ride and treck to camp was a challenge for the groups patience.
We are all ready to go to bed.. but.. we have to wait for the gear to arrive.

A bit of free time.

After our Canoe ride. We took full advantage of our afternoon. Half of the group went back to camp to rest and play. We also took the time to air out our sleeping bags and clean up the site.

The other half went out with Scouter Terry for some salmon fishing in Tofino. It was quite tough. The wind was very strong. Sadly we caught nothing. We will try again tomorrow.

Stroke!! Stroke!!!!! STROKE!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, we had the luck to canoe in two aboriginal canoes. The smaller canoe held six people and the larger one held 10 people. Our guide was from the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation. The 16 scouts that went in the canoes paddled out to Meares island. The other 11 received a motor boat ride to the island. When we arrived at the island we unloaded the canoes and started on a hike through the forest on Meares island. We saw some huge trees and some banana slugs. We stopped near the shore to eat lunch and then we headed back. For the way back, we switched the paddlers and the riders. The wind started to pick up and the arrival at shore was delayed. The riders arrived there first. Both of the canoes had to towed back to shore because of the waves. Once everybody was at the shore, half of the group went fishing and the other half headed back to the campsite to relax.
